Expose Your Petals

I love flowers and I buy a bouquet of them as often as I can. In my personal opinion, Trader Joe’s has the best flower options. So this past week, I picked up two bouquets of roses. One of the stems split in half and I wasn’t able to add it to the vase, so I decided to just keep it at my desk. I mean it was so beautiful that I couldn’t get rid of it.

It lasted way longer than I thought at my desk, considering it didn’t have a food or water supply. Around the 4th or 5th day I noticed the edges turning black and decided it was time to part with it. So I picked it up and gave it one last look with all intentions to throw it away, but then I noticed there was more. Beyond the outer, wilted and black petals there were about 20 or more fresh petals that hadn’t bloomed.

I manually pulled apart those unbloomed petals and was able to expose all it had and enjoy new found beauty. I thought to myself “Wouldn’t that have been a waste to throw away?”

See, God gives me spiritual manna through natural events because this is what he told me next.

The flower represents our human lives and our lives are short like a vapor. We never know when we will be called home. Oftentimes during our lives, we don’t “expose all of our petals”. Love goes ungiven, ministries never get started, visions don’t get written, change never happens, talents go unused, words go unsaid and so on and so forth. The question has been asked before, “Where is the richest place on earth?”. The answer is the grave. Why? Because there lies untapped potential.

Just as I manually pulled those petals to expose them and their beauty, God will do the same for us! He is our strength, encouragement, sustainer and cheerleader to be able to be about the Father’s business everyday and to do all unto His glory.

So what am I saying? One, life is short and gone at any moment. Two, make sure you expose all your petals by answering and doing what God has asked you to do. Not only does it please the Lord, but it leaves a lasting legacy way after you are no longer here but with the Father.

Brothers and sisters, give freely, love fully, minister wholeheartedly, be kind and helpful, quick to pray for one another, share your time and share the gospel.

Don’t let your flower (life) be thrown away (end) before all your petals are exposed. I love you all with the love of God.

See you next week!
