It was a cool 75 degree Saturday. The sun was shining and there was a constant, light breeze. It was such a cool day that I was able to sit in my car, under the shade of a tree and not need the AC. For the first time in months, the AC was too cold for the temperature today.
With my windrow cracked to let in the breeze and the tree’s leaves rustling over my head, I enjoyed time on my phone in silence.
Then, it was as if God told the wind to perfectly weave through the leaves and whisper this to me, “Don’t miss this moment.” I put my phone down and stared out into the distance to make sure I really heard that. I soon realized I was living out a prayer I had been asking for, which was cooler days.
I was being reminded to not miss the moment to delight in answered prayers, but to also not miss the moment to share it with God and praise Him for the beautiful day He created.
So with my phone down, I just listened. Listened to the wind and trees and made myself available to what the Lord wanted to tell me.
Being still is the best way to hear from God because sometimes He is whispering to us, but we can’t hear it because we make ourselves too busy, we never take a break from the phone and we don’t linger in one place long enough.
My time spent under this tree reminded me of Psalms chapter 1 and I affirmed in myself that I am a sturdy, well watered and fruitful tree.
All this, recollection of scripture, the voice of God and space for gratitude, I would have missed. Thank you God for calling out to me.
He’s calling out to you too. What is He saying?
