I have the bible app installed on my phone because I love the word of God and I want a constant reminder to spend time in it. I even configured the app as a widget on my home screen, so that the first thing I see is the Verse of the Day. One of the verses this week was this:
1 Peter 3:15
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
It’s powerful scripture that combines how we should prioritize God and the tenderness to be used towards others. After reading it and meditating on it, I realized that there is a level of preparedness that is expected of us as followers of Christ.
All over the bible there are different illustrations with the same underlying concept: readiness and being prepared.
Compiled below is a short list of scriptures that I meditated on and each one instructs Christians to be prepared.
2 Timothy 4:2
“Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.”
Matthew 24:44
“So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
Matthew 25:10
“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.”
Luke 12:35-36
“Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him.”
Friends, be ready and stay ready so that you don’t have to get ready. Part of our Christian lifestyle should be preparing to be used by God and for God. This is the prepared waiting, where at any time we are ready to respond to the call of the Lord.
See you next week!
