He lives!
Happy Resurrection Sunday! Christ Jesus lives today.
I hope you had a victorious Holy Week! I can say that this has been one of the best Holy Week experiences I’ve had.
The events that took place didn’t change, the truth of scripture remained the same, but it was me that was different.
I decided to do two things this Holy Week:
- Fast
- Use my senses as I followed Jesus’ through scripture
I imagined the dirt roads leading into Jerusalem, the dust and palms, the smell of the oil on Jesus’ body, the sound of money coins hitting the floor in the temple, the shouts of children praising the Son of David, the joy from those who had been healed, the heaviness upon the room during Passover, the clashing of armory coming into the garden, the echo and chills of the crowd yelling “Crucify him!”, the savage assault and disfiguring, the weight of the cross digging into open flesh, the dust mixed with His blood, the quake of the earth and then silence.
All of that imagery and placing myself in scripture still has my mind amazed and my heart so thankful and indebted. That God’s deep love for you and me would cause Him to take our place willingly.
God opened my mind and allowed me to imagine myself on the cross, nailed between two robbers. My vision was blurry as blood ran into my eyes. I was high up overlooking the heads of the people below me and my heart sank. It sank because that should have been me, but it also sank because I know my death would not have made a difference. My blood would have been just a drop in the bucket.
The Holy Spirit was all over me and I bawled and praised and never experienced a moment like that with God. It was as if full understanding and wisdom of the “why” was imparted to me at another level.
He lives!
Because of what took place on Friday, we get to celebrate and thank God. We can have a real relationship with a Holy God, we can approach His throne with confidence, we get to receive a portion of His resurrection power, have eternal life and death and sin is no longer our master!
He lives and I hope you rejoice in that today!
See you next week.
