28

Today is my birthday and I’m so thankful for more life and the promise that I get to live until I’m satisfied [Psalm 91:16]!

I want to share two things that I’ve been reflecting on this week:

  1.  Consistency instead of intensity.
  2.  I’m the sum of all my years.

Consistency instead of intensity.

This isn’t a new concept, but it is one that once applied makes all the difference. It’s the small daily habits that make and produce noticeable changes in the future.

For example, reading one chapter of my bible daily that I study, dissect and research context about, helps me remember and write the word on my heart. Instead of obsessing over reading large portions at a time that I probably won’t recall.

Or, saying brief prayers throughout the day instead of one long one at night. The constant connection with God throughout the day keeps me refreshed.

The picture I’m trying to paint is living a discipline.

I’m the sum of all my years.

Most people I know feel the same on their birthday as they feel the day before. For me that’s true as well, but as I get older I still feel younger. That’s because I’m the sum of all my years. I still have playful 7 year old Brittany on the inside, 18 year old Brittany who’s learning herself and 24 year old Brittany who changed her life to be more like Jesus. All the ages and stages of me are still me even as the number of candles on my cake grows.

It’s really a beautiful thing.

I learn from the stages of myself and let go of the areas that need to be pruned but overall the youth in me always surfaces.

So in this 28th year of life, I pray to be consistent, remain young in heart and to use the years of life God has given me wisely by pleasing Him and showing the days He has given me are worth it.

See you next week!
