Rest That Builds

Solomon sent back this message to Hiram:

“You know that because of the wars waged against my father David from all sides, he could not build a temple for the Name of the Lord his God until the Lord put his enemies under his feet.  But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or disaster. I intend, therefore, to build a temple for the Name of the Lord my God, as the Lord told my father David, when he said, ‘Your son whom I will put on the throne in your place will build the temple for my Name.’”

1 Kings 5:2-5

What do you do during your time of rest?

Do you even take time to rest?

Rest is a gift and commandment from God. It’s a way to connect with him, show that you trust him and for your well-being.

Take David and Solomon for example. During David’s reign there was constantly a war to fight and enemies to ward off. David was busy and occupied with war strategies and organizing military campaigns. His blood shed made him unsuitable for building a temple that would represent peace and prayer. Similar to us today, our hurry, our busy, our hustle and don’t stop mentality makes us unsuitable to hear, start or even complete the things of God assigned to us because we have no rest to work from.

Pastor Madu said in one of his sermons about rest, “Rest is not the reward you get from work. Rest is the place you do your work from.”

Meaning your godly rest is a power source to fuel your next day, venture or project.

Solomon on the other hand, was promised rest by God. During that period of rest from war, Solomon built the most magnificent temple for the Name of God. Rest powered him for the purpose.

When you use the rest granted and commanded by God it sets you up to produce some of the best work, things or ideas you could ever imagine.

Rest shifts our focus.

Rest is trust that when we pause, God continues.

To drive the point home, out this awesome sermon from Pastor Madu’s series on rest. The delivery is fun and relatable, but life changing when you catch the beat.

See you next week!

  1. Brittany,

Yes, the Bible teaches that God desires for human to rest. This is evident through the commandment to observe the Sabbath, the example of God resting on the seventh day of creation, and Jesus’ invitation to find rest in Him. Rest is not only a physical necessity but also a spiritual and emotional need, allowing us to reconnect with Him and experience renewal, allows us to get closer to Him.  I listen yo that sermon several times. 🙌🏽
