I always want the weekends to take its time, not to pass by too quickly. I especially feel this way when my Saturdays are picture perfect. This particular Saturday was the first day out of several where the sun was shining. We had a rainy streak for three days and I didn’t get out of the house much, but from Friday evening I knew Saturday would be great simply because the weather app told me the sun would be shining!
I started my day expecting goodness and it was more than good, it was marvelous. I got all my errands done safely, I had gift cards to use towards my purchases, discounts were at every store I went to, the fresh air felt healing and people were super kind. This was one of those days that had all the special feels about it, the kind where you want to bottle it up in a jar and never forget it.
Fast forward, I’m home for the night and I’m reflecting on the day and thinking of how I can keep the day going. I think to myself, “the best ending to the day would be to see my parents (they are my besties) and watch the basketball game with good food.” If you ask me if I’m a sports girl/fan, my answer would be, “Only if I’m watching the game with people who love the sport. Their shouts and commentary is what excites me.”
Hours earlier I had already called my parents and joked with them that they should come up for the weekend and even tried to bait my dad by telling him it was a game night. So I decided to pray. Asking God to move their hearts and make them willing to come. I go on to do other things around the house after praying and then the Holy Spirit tells me clearly, “Prepare for what you prayed for.”
I prayed for company to come over, so that means I need to get ready for the company. So I do a quick clean of the kitchen and living room and even look over my room to make sure nothing is out of place.
Long story short my parents didn’t come over that night, however I was reminded of two important things.
- Pray about your desires. No matter how small they are.
- Prepare for what you pray for.
Preparation shows God that we trust and expect Him to move. We have to understand that His movement may not be exactly what (or when) we asked for, but He does act and isn’t slow to it [2 Peter 3:9]. I also believe that preparation shows God that He can trust as stewards of what He plans to bless us with. Preparation is the process of transforming. This process, if done in the Spirit, can help us transform our heart and mind for the expected blessing. Do you ever wonder what God may not have released to us yet because we haven’t even made room for it?
I needed a spiritual reminder more than I needed a game night. I thank the Lord for giving me what I needed the most instead. My night matched my perfect day, because my night was topped off with being loved and taught by God. I smiled while I cleaned, as I waited and when I laid my head down for bed.
Pray with your whole heart friends, ready yourself for the blessing and smile while you wait.
See you next week!
