Think Little, Sleep Much

Sometimes I can’t turn my brain off at night, which lead to sleepless nights or sleep being delayed. My thoughts collide with each other the second my head hits the pillow. I review the day, random song lyrics come up, I mentally make a to-do list for tomorrow or think through what-if scenarios.

I remember lying awake one night and just accepting the fact that I just can’t sleep and won’t bother getting mad about it. It’s life.

However, do not accept defeat my dear friend. I want to tell you two things.

  1. The Lord calls us to rest.

Don’t fool yourself into thinking it’s normal to not be able to take captive your thoughts and put them under the command of the Lord and fall asleep at night.

Look at these related scriptures:

  • Matthew 11:28
  • Psalm 23:2
  • Genesis 2:3
  • Psalms 4:8

2. Tell someone about your struggle.

Allow others to share the burden and lift you up in prayer. Intercessory prayer is healing and pleases God.

Look at these related scriptures

  • James 5:16
  • 1 Timothy 2:1-3
  • James 5:13
  • 1 John 5:14-15

This specific week, I was on a spree of sleepless nights. Four nights to be exact. The lack of sleep was showing in my mood and overall presence, but I had a praying dad. My dad prayed for me to have not only have a night of full sleep but of rest also. There is a difference. Rest in my opinion goes down to the cellular level, where every part of your being is restored and renewed and your mind is only open to the gentle whispers of God.

Although I continued to pray for change, my heart was heavy because my sleep pattern hadn’t changed yet! The freshness, power and conviction my dad had in his prayer, made an instant impact in my reality! Take a look for yourself.

I encourage you to find ways to rest and reset. God rested and set an example for us, so that means it’s important. What’s important to Him should be important to us as well. Pray, meditate, relax. Don’t let the enemy win by taking your God given rest. Be well my friend.

See you next week!

Yes!! Prayer work and it is vital to pray one for another in all circumstances. When we pray trust and believe it is done!!

Every night we must relax, submerge ourselves into the care of the Lord (have a brain dump) allowing the issues / concerns of today go, and not worry about the concerns of tomorrow for that matter. It is not easy to do – therefore we must pray and ask Jesus to guide our minds / help us relax. Be specific in your prayers.

Remember there are two days you should never worry about: yesterday and tomorrow. You can’t live in the past. You can’t live in the future.

    Psalm 33:8
You can rest without worry or fear—all night—because while you rest God is watching over you. He is mighty and powerful, and he works all things for good for those who love him.

Sweet sleep and dreams. 💤 😴
