One Life

After a full day, getting into the Spirit for worship and meditation was hard for me. Hear me out. After working for eight hours, consuming social media, tv and videos, cooking and any possible errands, I felt like when it was time to be with God that I had to literally step into a totally self.

The everyday Brittany and then the Spirit filled Brittany. Those were my two worlds.

We know that the bible says to worship God in spirit and in truth [John 4:24] and I was struggling with getting into the Spirit aspect (probably due to lack of consistency). It just wasn’t an easy transition for me.

Then I realized it shouldn’t be a transition at all. I should be living in the Spirit and not acting like it’s an accessory that I take on and off. Galatians 5 tells Christians to walk by the Spirit, live by the Spirit and sow into the Spirit.

Basically, stay ready so you don’t have to get ready, is what I tell myself.

One thing I love about drawing closer to God is that He will make scripture more applicable in the by and by. I’ve read Galatians 5 before but, it wasn’t until I had an adversity, struggle and need, that scripture became more real and helped change my behavior.

So, how have I changed my behavior? First, I fasted on how I can live by the Spirit consistently. I’ll share two of my personal answers from God but for you it may look different.

The first thing He told me to change was our time of meeting. I now spend my quality time with God first thing in the morning and in the middle of the day so that my days are prioritized around Him instead of God getting my left over time at night. Then He told me to “grow my discipline.” That’s a lot to unpack here because it got real deep and personal so I won’t dive into that, but feel free to use my first answer to help if you are facing the same struggle I was or if you just want to change your routine.

The takeaways should be this: Live one life. A life that is in tandem with God.

After my fast and God given answers, I’m even more excited about my relationship with God, I’m feeling more unified, guarding my eyes, ears and tongue and it feels good to be spiritually disciplined.

The word is the guide and instructions for our lives for a reason! God knows what He is talking about.

See you next week!

Brittany you’re not alone – “one life” is all we have. We live in a society that is obsessed with time, and we never seem to have enough of it. In the midst of the hustle and bustle, we have to make time for God. If you don’t know, know that God is ever-present in our lives. Prayers can be said at any time, day or night. Do it when you think about it. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you are doing. Read the Bible first thing in the morning or last thing at night, or during a break in the day. Take your Bible with you wherever you go, or use your smartphone or tablet.  We’re always on digital devices so why not read the Bible on your device. Allowing God to be the center of your every being makes life so much easier. In your alone time talk to God!!
    Thank you Brittany for sharing.
    See you next week 😘
