There’s an area in my city that’s very popular for modern mixed use retail and living. Every inch of that part of town is decorated with dirt piles, bulldozers, construction men and women, materials, canes and cones to direct traffic.
Every time you look the city is approving something new to be built.
More houses.
More apartments.
More retail shops.
More fitness facilities
More, more and more.
You may be seeing something similar in your city, where there are constant additions and buildings popping up all over.
I realized today as I drove through that area how this view and idea of packing more into these spaces, is detrimental to the unguarded heart.
The spiritual effect behind the “more” we see visually in the world, can create a craving within us to want more as well.
With these beautiful buildings and facilities, the unguarded heart can desire more for their own life. More money to do new things and participate in new commerce experiences, more house space to mimic the newer models being built or even a better car to blend in and belong into these new upscale and modern areas. It takes away appreciation and gratitude from what you already have by dangling the new and shiny in front of you.
Guard your heart, friends.
Build your contentment in God.
Build your confidence in His security and provisions.
Build your desire for more in Him and His kingdom because we know what follows after that when we place him first.
Wanting more is not a bad thing, but make sure the changes of the world around us isn’t pressuring us or backing us into a corner to create impure motives of want. Want with the motivation to amplify God’s name in the earth!
See you next week!
