Cherry Red Paint

One morning the fire hydrant in the yard was getting repainted. I didn’t notice how faded it was getting until I saw the new layers of cherry red paint being applied to it.

Out of all the hydrants in the county and across all the neighborhoods, our fire hydrant  was remembered. I’m sure the fire department tracks this sort of thing to make sure no hydrant is left behind, but this simple action put a lot of praise in my heart.

God never forgets us. [Psalm 115:12]

God refreshes/restores us. [Jeremiah 31:25]

God provides all of our needs. [Philippians 4:19]

At any moment, God will bring his plans to life. [Isaiah 60:22]

Most importantly, it reminded me that I am covered by the blood of Jesus! That my salvation is a gift, that my sins are forgiven, that I can ask of the Lord, I’m friends with the Creator, I have the power of miracles, I have an inheritance to claim, fear doesn’t grip me and I have peace with God.

You’ll notice the paint splatter that’s on the ground. That is evidence of restoration. When God refreshes you, when God transforms you, when God shows his kindness to you, be living proof of it. Let the same way God has affected you, affect your environment too, never suppressing it but always leaving trails of goodness.

One hydrant, some cherry red paint and opened eyes to see the unseen.  [2 Corinthians 4:18]

P.S. I watched the painting happen live. The fireman didn’t take the time to remove the old paint before apply the new coat. He covered it was it was. Come to Jesus as you, broken you, sorrowful you, unpolished you. He has enough love to cover all your bruises, fill your God-size holes and give you what you truly need.

See you next week!

  1. Brittany, very well illustrated.  Yes, when God does a work in us we should allow the trace of His deliverance, restoration of His marvelous work in our life. Transitions may often happen gradually or suddenly, but it’s important to trust in God’s timing. See you next week.
