Which Woman?

As a man it’s important to choose the right woman for yourself. Some men may feel like there are too many options to narrow down the choice and others feel like it’s slim pickings.

From a man’s perspective when you are interested in a woman, you get to know her and essentially see what she’s all about. You have to go deeper than looks because beauty is fleeting. You need to seek out how she will affect your life.

The evaluation process can be difficult, but to help you out let me introduce you to three more women: 1) Wisdom 2) the Adulteress and 3) Folly.

After getting to know these women, maybe you’ll have more clarity on how to evaluate women and on the qualities that should be prioritized.

Proverbs 1-9 portrays three different women and they all affect your life differently. If they had a short bio for themselves it would be something like this…

Meet Wisdom:

She is a woman that will bring you prosperity, wealth and honor [Proverbs 8:18]. She loves to cook, on any given day you can find her preparing a meal for anyone who wants to come by and hear from her [Proverbs 9:1-6]. Most importantly, with her you’ll win favor and a good name [Proverbs 3:4]. She has very close ties with God, they have known each other forever and she would love to help you connect with Him and her other friends worth knowing, such as knowledge and understanding [Proverbs 8:22-31].

Meet the Adulteress:

She is a woman who knows how to command attention with her words, they drip like honey and are smooth like oil [Proverbs 5:3]. Although captivating at first, in due time she’s known to turn bitter [Proverbs 5:4]. She gives no thought to life and is blind to her ways [Proverbs 5:6]. You’ll definitely have a great time with her but it will never last long [Proverbs 5:5].

Meet Folly:

She is a loud woman and not very smart [Proverbs 9:13]. She is a homeowner but the type that sits outside all day bothering those who pass by as fun [Proverbs 9:14-15]. Discipline is not her thing and she says whatever is on her mind [Proverbs 9:13-16]. She doesn’t mind doing wrong if it means a desirable outcome for the moment [Proverbs 9:17-18].

Which woman would you choose?

Having the options laid out before you, with the known pitfalls, makes it an easy choice. However in real life, it’s not always that simple. That’s why we need wisdom!

Wisdom is supreme and should always be sought after, desired and kept close. Wisdom leads to long life, has moral benefits, produces a disciplined life, keeps your foot from stumbling, keeps you on the path of righteousness, allows you to live in safety, be at ease and find paths of peace. Proverbs 3:13-15 sums it up beautifully, “Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.”

So men (and women) of all the choices out there choose wisdom, she will never lead you astray.
