Have you ever had to give yourself a pep talk before going somewhere? Maybe it was a new place you’ve never been and didn’t know what to expect or a place you’re familiar with but felt people shy. The commonality between these two scenarios is that you need a boost or a gentle push of encouragement to proceed in confidence.
I just wanted to share something that I’ve been doing that has brought me much peace when I find myself in a situation where I need a “boost”. Rather than walking into a store, office or restaurant with physical signs of confidence – head held high, shoulders back and a set face, I instead remind myself with every step, “I am the light entering into this place.”
See, I can boost myself with self inflated affirmations and it may work up until I reach for the door handle or encounter the first person inside, but changing my point of view to me carrying a precious gift inside me allows me to be soft and not rely on what my physical body is portraying. I literally imagine rays of light coming from my core and it settles any anxiety, gives me the confidence boost I need and it’s also my mental reminder to share Jesus with someone.
Long story short, we may not always feel confident or well equipped to be among people, but we have a light to share, a smile to give and Jesus
Paul says, “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” We may not always feel confident or well equipped to be among people, but when we put that weakness before God, we in turn receive His strength!
See you next week!
