Don’t Forget

2–3 minutes

But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.  – Hebrews 13:16

When I read this verse, and any verse for that matter, I mentally highlight key words. I considered “good” and “share” at first, then got stuck on “sacrifices” and “well pleased”. It wasn’t until two days later the Holy Spirit showed me the most important words.

Do not forget.

How many times do we forget in a day, a week, a month? We forget the clothes in the dryer, we forget to buy items on our grocery list, we forget to say thank you or forget dinner plans with a friend. The moral of the story is, it is easy to forget and the author of Hebrews knew that.

Consider the Israelites. They forgot the God of their fathers. They forgot to keep God’s commandments and not turn to idols. They forgot the power of their God who rescued them from their enemies and brought them out of the land of Egypt.

I believe forgetfulness is tied to looking at your circumstances too long and not at God and having distance instead of nearness to him.

God knows his people and he knows we tend to forget. Which is why all through the Old Testament, especially in Deuteronomy, Moses has to remind the people of all God has done for them.

We too have that same forgetfulness that the Israelites had.

So my message to you is do not forget!

The Psalmist in Psalm 103:2 is talking to himself and tells himself “forget not”. Why? Because when depression sets in, setbacks roll one after another and prayers seem unanswered, we forget the track record of God!

So as the Spirit told me, do not forget friends.

Don’t forget the merciful and patient God we know and serve.

Don’t forget the faithful High Priest who understands human weakness and offers help.

Don’t forget to pray in the Spirit on all occasions and about all requests.

Don’t forget that what you treasure the most will determine the direction of your life.

Don’t forget that God has open arms and a deep running love for you.

Don’t forget all the benefits of the gift of salvation.

Don’t forget that there are eternal rewards for the one who overcomes.

Often we think the enemy has complex schemes, but I believe he chooses to work smarter not harder. Which is why his attacks mostly start with our minds. He knows that if he can plant seeds of forgetfulness, it can reduce our praise, prayers and the trajectory of our faith.

Let’s reclaim our minds and choose to remember

God bless you.

See you next week!

  1. Brittany, thank you for this reminder to US ALL.  Forgetting God’s works and laws can lead to a “shallow” faith and a “troubled heart”, even lead to much more. Love you and see you next week 🥰
