Happy Mother’s Day!

I was reflecting on all my mom is and does for me and my family this week and I asked God this question, “Why are women so special to you?”

Every question we have we can find in scripture so that’s what I turned to. When I asked the question I didn’t ask because I think women are more valuable than men or to put comparison/competition between the sexes, but I wanted to be immersed and fortified with women empowerment directly from the Creator’s word. 

Below is how the scriptures answered my question:

1. The number one reason why women are so special is because we are created in God’s image. 

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. – Genesis 1:27

From the very beginning, God created women with equal worth and spiritual value.

2. God describes his care with motherly imagery

As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem. – Isaiah 66:13

… how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings… – Matthew 23:37

This shows that qualities often associated with women, nurture, compassion and tenderness, reflect aspects of God’s character.

3. God uses women powerfully throughout the bible

• Deborah – A courageous judge and prophetess who led Israel with wisdom and faith, guiding God’s people to victory in a time of oppression
• Esther – Risked her life and used her position as queen to save the Jewish people from destruction.
• Mary – Humbly accepted God’s calling to give birth to Jesus, playing a central role in God’s plan of salvation.
• Mary Magdalene – Remained faithful to Jesus through His crucifixion and became the first witness to His resurrection, carrying the news of His victory over death.

Women are special to God because they are made in His image, are entrusted with meaningful purpose and are equally loved in salvation and relationship with Him.

To all the women who are not mothers, in addition to the list above, you’re special because by just being a woman you possess all the qualities of motherhood in you, woven deep in your spirit and dna. 

To all the women who are not mothers, beyond everything already mentioned, you are special simply because being a woman carries within you the heart and qualities of motherhood, woven deeply into your spirit and your very DNA by God himself.
