Week 4: Summer of Presence

Reflection

Life teaches us that we should have a best friend and that friend should know everything about us. The truth is, we have the ability to hide things from our best friend but not from God. He’s not an average friend and truthfully it’s an honor he would befriend us and call us friends. The psalmist says God knows our ways so well that He before we speak He knows the words we are going to choose! Hopefully this is encouragement for someone who’s never had a close friend or has fallen away from their best friend, you are NEVER alone. God’s presence is always with you. 

My heart was filled with joy thinking about the intimate proximity of God’s presence today. It’s so easy to forget the power of His indwelling Spirit within us. Unlike the Old Testament experience, where God’s presence was localized  with mediators and boundaries, today we live out the benefit of the torn veil and God lives in us!

Summer Practice

A practical response to Psalm 139:

• Treat God like a best friend–tell him everything, he knows it already but he wants to hear from you. 
• Ask God to search you–as a good friend would, He lovingly reveals what needs to change so you can grow and become more like Him without condemnation.
