Reflection
What is the link between your abilities and blessing others?
Willingness.
Can you imagine being able to do something but not being willing to do it? Without willingness your abilities stay confined to yourself and never reach the intended person.
Psalm 62:11 shows God is able because he has power. It says, “Power belongs to you, God”.
David doesn’t stop with God’s power though, in verse 12 he immediately pairs it with God’s love by saying, “and with you, Lord, is unfailing love…”.
It’s because of his love that he willingly extends his power to his people as a great reward.
God doesn’t possess love without power, leaving Him unable to help. Nor does He possess power without love, leaving Him unwilling to help.
David helps us answer two questions: Can God help me? Yes, because all power belongs to Him. Will God help me? Yes, because unfailing love belongs to Him.
Rest assured, God is both able and willing.
Summer Practice
A practical response to Psalm 62:
- Pour out your heart in prayer, God is your safe refuge.
- Anchor your identity in God by recognizing He is your rock, salvation and honor not the world classifications and systems.
Prayer
I am so thankful God that you still do great and mighty things for me. At the cross your power and love met and that means we never have to wonder how far you are willing to go for those who love you. You are infinitely able and infinitely willing, help us to follow your example. Everyday because of your grace we get opportunities to serve, let us not waste that or miss the extraordinary things we can do in your name. As we wait for your return, may you encourage us to fill our waiting with willingly serving the people you have blessed us with. Amen.
