Week 6: Summer of Goals

Reflection

Every quarter at work we have to set OKRs, objectives and key results. That’s just corporate jargon for goals. We enter the goal as the objective and then the key results are the planned actions we will take to achieve the objective. The key however, is that the goal must be of priority, impact and obtainable. Once set, the goal primarily dictates your daily, weekly and monthly activity. This regular cadence of goal setting made me think about the most important goal we can set for ourselves as Christians — to hear “well done, good and faithful servant”. With that being our goal, every day, every week and every month should be influenced by that goal.

If I had to write it out the objective with key results, it would look like this:

Objective: Hear the Lord tell me, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Key results: Accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. 

Key results: Spread the gospel according to Matthew 28. 

Key results: Live by the Spirit [Galatians 5]. 

So on and so forth.

Note: It’s not our works that gets us to eternity with the Father, it’s a free gift offered by grace and accepted by faith. It’s the grace of God and our faith in Jesus, believing he died for our sins. It’s the undeserved receiving that makes us desire to change the way we live and operate. 

Summer Practice

A practical response to Psalm 27:

• Like the psalmist, ask God for what you desire. 
• Wait for the Lord and seek his face. 
• Identify and align your priorities to Christ.
